The Benefact Group

An international group, built of businesses individually recognised as specialists across financial services. Owned by a charity, we are driven by something far greater than the need to satisfy shareholders; we are united by a belief that everyone benefits from better business – doing right by our customers earns their continued support, enabling us to give all available profits back to charities and good causes.

Our Group

Benefact Group is a diverse family of specialist financial services businesses, driven by our shared ambition to do right by our customers and clients, and united by a common purpose to give all available profits to charity and good causes. Being owned by a charity – Benefact Trust – places good intentions at the foundations of our Group. Whether in specialist insurance, investment management, broking or advisory, every business that makes up the Benefact Group is a specialist in their respective field. Together we provide responsible and sustainable investment, protection of iconic buildings and world heritage sites, and trusted advice to people and businesses.

What We’re Made Of

Offering products and services that help protect in the present, pre-empt the possible and invest in a healthier financial future, Benefact Group is underpinned by businesses built on genuine insight and ethics.

Our Impact

Every business, organisation, or individual supported by a Benefact Group brand, has themselves supported the over £250m in donations that have gone towards helping communities, charities and good causes so far. It’s this support that makes us the 3rd largest UK corporate donor over a decade*.

Our History - Making a difference for over 135 years.

What started in 1887 as protection for disadvantaged parishes with the provision of church insurance by concerned citizens, soon flourished into a diverse and successful business.

What was Ecclesiastical Buildings Fire Office, steadily grew and branched out, and soon enough was in the unique position of being able to offer its proceeds back to the communities it helps. The Ecclesiastical name has stuck with us and will continue to be used by our insurance companies as part of a growing group of specialist financial companies with an ambition to contribute towards real change.

In 1972 it was decided our ownership should be transferred to a separate independent charity, hence the formation of Benefact Trust (previously Allchurches Trust). To this day the Trust continues to dispense profits through its ownership of Benefact Group and the specialist financial businesses that sit within it.

Benefact Trust, our charitable owner

Benefact Trust’s purpose is to make a positive difference to people’s lives by funding, guiding and celebrating the work of churches and charities; empowering the most vulnerable and giving people, communities and places a renewed opportunity to flourish.

We’re built on the idea that better business, can better lives.

Our Vision & Mission

As a Group, we only have three simple goals;

  • To be one of the most trusted providers of insurance broking in the UK.

  • To provide our clients with the appropriate insurance in a professional and supportive way.

  • To maximise the potential of all our people within the Group.

Our Values

Underpinning our vision are the values which we hold dear. Beyond our obligatory regulation, we are committed to maintaining high standards in the way we treat our clients and our people. These values are core to everything we do in the Lloyd & Whyte Group; Professional, Supportive, Fun, Ambitious, Partnerships

How are we different?

There may be other insurance providers around; but none are quite like us.

  • We have long standing partnerships with some of the most prestigious healthcare organisations in the UK; British Medical Association, British Dental Association, British Veterinary Association, Association of Optometrists amongst many others.

  • We have strong partnerships with internationally recognised insurers who underwrite many of our insurance schemes for healthcare professionals.

  • We hold “Corporate Chartered Insurance Brokers” status, awarded to us by the Chartered Insurance Institute. In addition, STRIDE Underwriting are Chartered Underwriters. This represents a promise to our clients, our people and our partners that we will strive for ever increasing professionalism and knowledge within this sector.

  • We strive to be the “best of the best” which has led to recognition in the form of industry awards.

  • Our company culture is something we’re immensely proud of. Attracting and retaining motivated and talented people is the cornerstone of the excellent service our clients receive. We’re constantly working to provide an environment for our people to thrive.
